How Symbian works with network operators

Symbian works closely with network operators around the world to understand their mobile requirements and help them to make the most of the advanced capabilities of Symbian OS and the ecosystem that surrounds it. Together, Symbian, handset vendors and mobile network operators are bringing great Symbian smartphones to the market and enabling operators to expand their revenue potential through the fast roll out of advanced data services on a common platform.

ORB

The Operator Review Board is the Symbian hosted forum for major network operators. Current members - Vodafone, T-Mobile, Orange, Telecom Italia, AT&T, NTT DoCoMo and Telefónica. The aim of the ORB is to present and discuss Symbian’s roadmap and relevant technologies with leading mobile network operators in an honest and confidential way. A typical ORB will feature discussions around technology and services roadmaps, as well as opportunities for network operators to meet Symbian experts, network with each other and exchange ideas on Symbian OS related matters.

User interfaces on Symbian OS

Symbian OS smartphones have many different form factors and input mechanisms, and are intended for many different uses.  We manage these requirements by separating the user interface layer from the operating system. Symbian OS provides core frameworks and services, and the mobile phone manufacturer provides the right UI for their target customers. Symbian OS smartphones supports three user interfaces: FOMA SW platform, S60 and UIQ.
