Symbian welcomes new Nokia N73 for Softbank Mobile's line-up

TOKYO, Japan – 5 October 2006 – Symbian Ltd. welcomes the launch of the new Nokia N73 device in Japan based on Symbian OS™ version 9. The Nokia N73, a 3G (WCDMA) (*1) multimedia computer with the features of a digital camera, has been selected for Softbank Mobile Corp.'s 3G handset line-up.

Key features include:

  • 3.2 megapixel camera with Carl Zeiss optics and support for PictBridge
  • GSM850/900/1800/1900 and W-CDMA compatibility for network support in Europe, Asia-Pacific, Japan, Africa and the US

Symbian continues to focus on delivering a flexible, robust and open mobile operating system which gives handset manufacturers and network operators the ability to develop differentiated phones, faster, more easily and at lower cost for different market segments and regions. Symbian customers that have shipped 3G phones in Japan based on Symbian OS include Fujitsu, Mitsubishi Electric, Motorola, Nokia, Sharp, and Sony Ericsson.

This device is scheduled for release by Softbank Mobile from mid December in 2006, under the name of Nokia N73 (SoftBank 705NK).
