Symbian hosts partner technology showcase at CTIA

Partners Demonstrate Leading Mobile Applications, Middleware and Services at Symbian Booth, # 4217, Hall N3

CTIA Wireless 2006, LAS VEGAS, NV – April 4, 2006 – Symbian Ltd. today announced that 12 partner companies are exhibiting their latest technologies and services for Symbian OS™ at its booth, # 4217, Hall N3, at CTIA Wireless 2006 in Las Vegas, Nevada.  Partner demonstrations will take place throughout the show.

Symbian develops and licenses Symbian OS, the leading open operating system for advanced, data-enabled mobile phones also known as smartphones, to the world’s largest handset manufacturers.  In 2005, 34 million Symbian OS mobile phones were sold worldwide to over 250 network operators, bringing the total number of Symbian OS phones shipped to almost 60 million.

Ecrio

Ecrio™ is a leading vendor of real time communication software for mobile phones. A provider of interoperable and standards compliant software to mobile phone manufacturers and mobile network operators, Ecrio partners with Symbian to offer solutions for Instant Messaging and Presence Services (IMPS), IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) and Push to Talk over Cellular (PoC). Ecrio is demonstrating IMS based applications, including PoC (Push-to-Talk) and PtS (Push-to-Show), which are compliant with the 3GPP IMS standard and include OMA compliant Presence and XDM functionality

EMCC Software

EMCC Software is a leading provider of mobile solutions and development services. With comprehensive experience in open mobile OS development and enterprise solutions, EMCC Software has been working within the Symbian ecosystem as a competence center since 1998. EMCC is demonstrating, amongst other applications, DataViz RoadSync™, the push email solution for Exchange 2003 users, and a suite of fun applications from Starwave Mobile.

Global Wireless Networks

Global Wireless Networks is demonstrating their mobile request application for traders who receive information from broker networks.  This application provides users with trade details at the broker’s terminal and demonstrates how investment portfolios can be tracked using a scrolling ticker on a phone.  Other components of the software enable placement of trades from a mobile phone, access to account balance details with quotes and confirmations of trades.

IBM

IBM® is demonstrating Symbian OS phones using IBM WebSphere® Everyplace products to securely access enterprise resources and provide a powerful mobile office environment. IBM industry leading software enables on demand flexibility by extending the Services Oriented Architecture (SOA) capabilities to wireless devices. These capabilities help businesses integrate people, processes, information and applications to reach customers and employees in new ways.

mFormation

mFormation is demonstrating its market-leading mFormation SERVICE MANAGER™ Suite of software products, which provide over-the-air configuration of device settings, real-time device diagnostics and security, intelligent firmware (FOTA) and software updates, and remote visibility of the customer experience. The platform manages a wide range of mobile devices, from standards-compliant mobile phones to smartphones and converged devices, over multiple wireless network protocols, including GSM/GPRS, CDMA and UMTS.

MphasiS

MphasiS is demonstrating its technology service capabilities and mobile application for the pharmaceutical industry.  The Dpharma application is currently available for Nokia 9300/9500. Among its many features, this application enables pharmaceutical field sales representatives to collect meeting notes, order on-line, create meeting planners, and search databases.

Quickoffice

Quickoffice® is the world leader in providing mobile office document software for Symbian OS phones. Quickoffice is demonstrating its flagship product, Quickoffice Premier, a comprehensive office suite that contains an easy-to-use file management interface that allows seamless opening, viewing, and editing of native Microsoft Word®, Excel®, and PowerPoint® files.  Now users can easily view and make important edits to documents while mobile.

RIM

Research In Motion is demonstrating BlackBerry Connect™ on the Nokia 9300 smartphone, the Nokia Eseries devices, (Nokia E61, Nokia E60 and Nokia E70), Sony Ericsson’s M600 and the P990 on the stand.  With BlackBerry Connect, users can choose and enjoy the feature-rich capabilities of their preferred Nokia or Sony Ericsson device together with BlackBerry push email. Supported BlackBerry features include push-based wireless email access, wireless email reconciliation and attachment viewing through BlackBerry Enterprise Server™ and BlackBerry Internet Service™.

S60

S60 on Symbian OS is the leading smartphone software in the world and it is licensed by some of the foremost mobile phone manufacturers in the market. S60 will demonstrate S60 3rd edition capabilities on the latest Nokia Eseries devices as well as the new Web Browser for S60.  With innovative navigational features and superior Web compliance, browsing full Web pages on a small screen becomes fast and easy.

UIQ Technology

UIQ Technology develops and licenses an open software platform to the world's leading mobile phone manufacturers and supports licensees in the drive towards developing a mass market for open mobile phones.  UIQ Technology is demonstrating the latest phones based on UIQ, including the Sony Ericsson Walkman® W950, the Sony Ericsson M600 and the Sony Ericsson P990 - all phones with different profiles, targeting different market segments. UIQ Technology is also demonstrating the options with UIQ 3, enabling creation of different kinds of phones, still based on one single codeline, and how this shortens time to market.

Zi Corporation is demonstrating eZiText® for one-touch predictive text entry; eZiTap™ for intelligent multi-tap entry; eZiType™ for keyboard prediction with auto-correction; Decuma® for predictive pen-input handwriting recognition; and Qix™ service discovery engine to enhance the user experience and drive service usage and adoption.
