London, 6th Feb 2006 – Symbian Ltd. today welcomed Sony Ericsson’s announcement of the M600 and new applications for the P990.
The M600 is the second Symbian OS v9.1 and UIQ 3.0 enabled phone, after the P990, in the Sony Ericsson portfolio. New push email applications, remote synchronisation and expandable memory give owners a UMTS phone and email connectivity in a device that easily fits in their pocket - at just 15mm thick; it is one of the slimmest business UMTS devices of its kind available.

The P990 offers all the benefits of UMTS including video calling, high-bandwidth multi-media downloads and the ability to browse the Internet with full HTML pages. These can be viewed in landscape on the new Opera 8 browser. The new applications and entertainment content features include:

Symbian estimates that approximately 35% of 3G phones shipped in 2005 were based on Symbian OS. By the end of 2005, 23 Symbian OS 3G phones were shipping globally.
