TOKYO, Japan and LONDON, United Kingdom, 29 November 2004 - Symbian today announced that Sharp Corporation and Sony Ericsson Mobile Communications Japan, Inc. will use a Symbian OS-based software platform to develop NTT DoCoMo FOMA handsets. This joint development was announced by both companies today.
In 2003, over 6.67 million Symbian OS-based mobile phones were sold worldwide and close to 20 million have been sold to date. Symbian OS already has a strong track record in data-enabled mobile phones in accelerating development speed, reducing cost and increasing quality of high-end functions.

NTT DoCoMo's “FOMA” service is only available to subscribers in Japan.
