London, UK and Ronneby, Sweden, July 4th 2000 - Symbian today announces the appointment of Johan Sandberg as the General Manager for its office based in Ronneby, Sweden. Formerly Head of Operations for Lotus Professional Services in Northern Europe, Johan brings considerable experience in strategy, telecommunications and the enterprise to Symbian.
Symbian’s Ronneby operations are focused on the development of Symbian’s Quartz reference design, which was previewed earlier this year at CeBIT 2000. Designed for pen-based Communicators, which integrate both mobile telephony and computing applications. Symbian’s Quartz reference design has been licensed by Ericsson, Psion, Motorola and others.
Based in the southernmost tip of Sweden, Ronneby is a 2 hour drive from the Copenhagen-Malmö area. Johan will be continuing to extend closer links with technology companies and research centres throughout Scandinavia, a region generally perceived to be 2 - 3 years ahead of the rest of the world in wireless technology usage, mobile phone penetration and adoption of new technology. Symbian has already developed a close relationship with the University of Karlskrona/Ronneby, one of Sweden's leading IT institutions with the second highest number of new IT students in the country.
