CMWare became a Platinum Partner in 2006 and develops a new type of technology for audio and video streaming over wireless networks. Its myMobileMedia service is currently deployed in Western Europe and will be launching direct to consumers in the summer of 2007.
In the Partner Spotlight we talk to Steve Ott from CMWare who is responsible for Business Development.
Q: What is your company pioneering and how does it / will it bring value to the Symbian ecosystem?
A: CMWare’s myMobileMedia service turns Symbian smartphones into interactive media players, providing subscribers with remote access to content on their home PCs which they can manage and share with just a few clicks.
Q: Where do you see the biggest opportunities emerging for smartphones in the mobile industry?
A: We believe smartphones will continue to grow in Asia and Western Europe. However, in the next few years we believe we will see significant growth in the North American market.
Q: How do you see the mobile market changing over the next 5 years?
A: The mobile market will have a mature voice product in the next 5 years with data applications replacing voice as the primary revenue driver for mobile operators. In order to achieve this, mobile operators must offer unique applications that allow consumers to turn their phones into remote controllers for not only their media, but also business applications and possibly home electronics as well. Imagine programming your DVR from your phone or making sure the lights are off at home by remotely accessing the PC in your house which controls all your household electronics.
Q: How is CMWare formulating plans to address these changes?
A: CMWare has developed technology that allows consumers to access all their media on their home PC from their phone. To further increase their access, CMWare will allow consumers to store their media in a virtual drive for access anywhere and at any time.
Q: Which company or person do you most admire in the wireless industry and why?
A: I admire Michael Powell the former chairman of the FCC. Since joining our board he has been an invaluable asset with his experience, his ability to break down problems and recommend solutions and his intellect regarding the big picture.
Q: What’s next for CMWare?
A: We plan on launching with our second and third mobile operators at the end of Q2.
