3GSM Congress, Barcelona – 12th February 2007 – Allowing mobile phone handset manufacturers and network operators to get the best and most differentiated phones to market faster, cheaper and more easily, Renesas Technology Europe announces both that NTT DoCoMo, Inc., Renesas Technology Corp., Fujitsu Limited, Mitsubishi Electric Corporation and Sharp Corporation are developing SH-Mobile G2 single chip 3G platform, and also that the SH-Mobile G2 single chip 3G platform supports Symbian OS v9.3.
Aimed at high end 3G smartphones the upgraded processors address the need for a standard OS platform for advanced applications, and also the increased demand for multimedia and additional applications in mobile phones. The platform offers a complete solution from Renesas embracing SH-Mobile G2, multimedia codecs, and Symbian OS v9.3.
Symbian OS v9.3 is the latest evolution of the world’s leading smartphone operating system. It reinforces Renesas’ drive to stretch the smartphone category into the mass-market as well as deliver advanced features to converged mobile devices. Symbian OS v9.3 allows handset manufacturers and network operators to get the best and most highly differentiated phones to market faster, cheaper and more easily.
Symbian OS v9.3 builds on the success of the v9 family as a robust, secure, open and standards-based OS for smartphones. It includes incremental enhancements in line with market requirements related to phone performance, reduced time-to-market for handset vendors and cost-effective service deployment.
Key features of v9.3 include improved memory management, improved graphics, new hardware support including integrated GPS/location based services, Wi-Fi, USB 2.0 as well as an SQL database and support for network operator requirements of over the air provisioning and HSDPA.
One of the very few companies able to provide this level of turnkey system solution, Renesas has the system knowledge and system integration capabilities to make full use of its SH-Mobile G2 single chip 3G platform and its multimedia HW and SW IP.
Renesas latest SH-Mobile G2 application processor upgrade using Symbian OS v9.3 offers a complete turnkey multimedia solution for fastest time to market at reduced cost.
