ALK announces CoPilot Live navigation for Symbian smartphones

The Symbian Smartphone Show, London, 17th October 2006 - ALK Technologies today announced that their award-winning satellite navigation system, CoPilot Live, is now compatible with the latest Symbian UIQ-based smartphones from Sony Ericsson.

Initially compatible with the Sony Ericsson M600i and P990, this latest version of CoPilot Live provides fully featured satellite navigation that offers the same experience as a dedicated system or Personal Navigation Device (PND) but with the convenience and portability of a mobile phone.

CoPilot exploits these touch screen phones' powerful processors, built-in loud speakers and highspeed mobile Internet access to provide a great navigation experience. Turn-by-turn voice directions are provided on-screen and spoken in the same way as a built-in or dedicated system. Complex door to door trips are calculated in seconds thanks to CoPilot's industry-leading route calculation technology. Detailed address level maps and points of Interest from NAVTEQ, as used by many leading built-in systems, ensure that customers can locate their required destinations precisely and reliably.

CoPilot Live is packed full of features that make it an incredibly useful application to add to a phone. Customers can choose from driving mode, walking mode or planning mode for powerful pre-trip route calculation and access to detailed street maps of any location.

In-car there's a choice of driving views with Driver Safety being the default. In this view a map isonly displayed close to a turn, avoiding driver distraction at other times. Other views include a 3D "birds-eye" perspective, turn-by-turn itinerary and 'Where am I". If a turn is missed the best new route is calculated immediately.

As with other CoPilot Live products, customers can take advantage of a range of real-time services using the phones' built-in mobile Internet connectivity. These Live services include real-time location tracking on the Internet, instant messaging and the ability to send new stops from the web to the driver.

A further innovation includes the ability to import safety camera databases from the Internet. On the approach to a camera a verbal warning is provided, while current speed, prevailing speed limit and distance to the camera are all displayed on-screen.

Michael Kornhauser, Managing Director of ALK Technologies Ltd said "Premium quality navigation on your phone is now a reality. Customers can enjoy all the benefits of a dedicated system, no matter where they are or where they are headed, in-car or on foot"

Keith Burgess, Senior Manager, Business Partner Program, Sony Ericsson said "CoPilot Live really exploits the full potential of our latest smartphones. The combination of Internet, mobile e-mail, entertainment and satellite navigation provides a truly compelling customer experience"

The announcement of UIQ support further extends the CoPilot Live mobile phone navigation range. CoPilot Live is also available for Symbian smartphones with S60 3rd Edition software and Windows Mobile 5.0 based Pocket PCs and Phones. CoPilot is also available preloaded on the latest Acer navigation solutions across Europe.
