MyScript handwriting recognition for mobile devices now available for 70 languages

Nantes (France), October 12th 2006, Vision Objects, provider of the industry standard in handwriting recognition and text input methods for pen-based user interfaces, announces today the support of 70 languages, offering the largest choice of languages recognized worldwide for mobile devices. MyScript technology will be demonstrated at the Symbian Smartphone Show 2006 in London – Stand 126b.

MyScript handwriting recognition is now available for 70 Asian, Cyrillic and Latin-based languages addressing markets in the Americas, Europe and Asia-Pacific, enabling mobile handset manufacturers to design intuitive and interactive user interfaces using natural handwriting as a text input method for a wide range of messaging and Personal Information Management applications.

In addition to MyScript Lingo, a set of 16 language packs developed for applications requiring recognition of natural cursive handwriting, Vision Objects now provides MyScript Letra, a pack of resources specifically designed for mobile devices. MyScript Letra recognizes hand-printed and isolated characters in 70 different languages.

MyScript Letra can be easily integrated into small footprint platforms using a touch screen and stylus-based interfaces such as PDAs, electronic tablets, smartphones and gaming devices. It recognizes language-specific sets of characters including upper and lower case, accented characters, digits, punctuation marks and even individual and country specific writing styles.

“With this new release Vision Objects has achieved a major milestone. We are now proud to provide the most accurate handwriting recognition technology for the largest range of languages on the market” said Stefan Knerr, CEO and founder of Vision Objects.

“We are committed to working with mobile handset manufacturers, improving user experience and allowing people around the world to communicate in their native language using natural handwriting.”
