NEC Electronics Joins Symbian Platinum Program

Kawasaki, Japan, September 28, 2005 – NEC Electronics Corporation (TSE:6723), a leading provider of semiconductor solutions, today announced that it has joined the Symbian Platinum Program to support the growing market for mobile phones based on Symbian OS™, a global industry standard operating system for mobile phones. As a Platinum Partner, NEC Electronics is developing prototype solutions that incorporate Symbian OS, and sharing the latest information concerning Symbian OS with customers in an effort to shorten development times for new handset models with advanced capabilities.

As a result of the agreement, NEC Electronics will deliver the Symbian OS platform on such advanced solutions as the MP211 application processor series, enabling mobile handset manufacturers to seamlessly port their existing software resources to NEC Electronics’ semiconductors for 3G mobile phones.
