Amsterdam, The Netherlands, July 5, 2005 - At Microsoft Tech*Ed 2005 Europe, DataViz, Inc., leading provider of Office compatibility solutions for over 21 years, today announced that its new RoadSync solution for Symbian OS and UIQ smartphones is shipping. Based on the Exchange ActiveSync protocol licensed from Microsoft, RoadSync is the first commercially available software solution to provide secure, wireless and direct synchronization with Exchange Server 2003, thereby extending the existing mobile benefits of Exchange Server 2003 to reach non-Microsoft devices. RoadSync for Symbian OS and UIQ offers full mobile access to corporate Outlook e-mail, attachments, calendar and contacts, making the popular Sony Ericsson P900/P910 series smartphones the first non-Microsoft devices to support the full Exchange ActiveSync implementation.
With RoadSync, companies who rely on Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 for their corporate data will now be able to utilize their existing investment and deploy a low-cost, easy-to-implement mobility strategy for their workforce without the need for any middleware servers. In addition, they will now have the ability to choose from more of the popular devices found in today’s market and deploy a solution that meets their needs without any additional setup and recurring services fees commonly associated with today’s alternatives.

"Smartphones and mobile handsets have become serious business and productivity tools for professionals on the move. It’s no surprise that wireless and reliable access to corporate Outlook data and e-mail, including attachments, is now a ‘must-have’,” said Ilya Eliashevsky, DataViz, Inc. “With the introduction of RoadSync, combined with our mobile Office suite Documents To Go, our goal is to provide mobile workers with high-quality, cost-effective solutions that keep them connected to their ’Microsoft Office life’ no matter where they are.”
Sony Ericsson
“We are pleased to see DataViz develop and market solutions that strengthen compatibility between Microsoft desktop and server solutions and our Sony Ericsson smartphones in such an innovative way,” said Vu Nguyen, Vice President, Head of Enterprise Business for Sony Ericsson. “By extending the capabilities of Exchange ActiveSync to our smartphones, RoadSync provides an appealing offer for small to medium-sized businesses interested in a cost-effective mobility strategy that both enhances end-user productivity and lowers IT costs."
Additionally, Microsoft recently announced that new wireless features will be available in the upcoming Service Pack 2 for Exchange Server 2003, including support for “push” e-mail and additional security enhancements. As an Exchange Server ActiveSync licensee, DataViz will incorporate these main features into select editions of RoadSync, in conjunction with the release of Service Pack 2 in the fall of 2005.
In order to utilize DataViz’ RoadSync solution, the following requirements must be met:
RoadSync works with smartphones based on Symbian OS v7.0, and the UIQ user interface, which is also based on Symbian OS. Supported devices include the Sony Ericsson P900 and P910 series smartphones. Editions supporting secure, wireless and direct synchronization of e-mail from Exchange Server 2003 will be available shortly for Palm Powered devices as well as select Java MIDP 2.0 mobile phones. RoadSync for Palm Powered devices will work with Palm OS 5 smartphones and wirelessly-enabled handhelds, such as the Treo 650 and Treo 600. RoadSync for Java MIDP 2.0 will work with select mobile phones including the Motorola RAZR. Editions supporting Symbian OS-based Series 60 and Series 80 platforms will be available later this year.
