CodeSourcery, in partnership with ARM, Ltd., develops improvements to the GNU Toolchain for ARM processors and provides regular, carefully tested, precompiled releases of the GNU Toolchain. CodeSourcery's releases of the GNU Toolchain support both ARM and Thumb mode compilation, and support all versions of the ARM Architecture in active use, including Version 6.
CodeSourcery makes releases semianually. CodeSourcery's current release is the 2005-Q1 release. The 2005-Q1 release contains major improvements, including:
CodeSourcery's is now providing pre-built toolchains that can target the GNU/Linux operating system. These toolchains include support for Thread-Local Storage (TLS) and the Native POSIX Threads Library (NPTL). These toolchains use the new ARM EABI and also support the VFP unit found on newer ARM cores. These packages also include pre-built binary versions of the GNU C Library, built for ARM V5T processors.
CodeSourcery, through its partnership with Symbian, is now providing toolchains that can be used to build SymbianOS applications.
CodeSourcery's packages now include precompiled versions of the GNU Debugger (GDB). GDB now supports debugging with any RDI-enabled device.
CodeSourcery's toolchains include preliminary support for ARM's Thumb-2 unified assembler syntax. This support should be considered a technology preview; full support, including support for the generation of Thumb-2 code by the compiler, will be present in the 2005-Q3 release.
